The jury is still out on the effect that the oil spill is having on the weather in the Gulf area. Has it caused intensification of the storms in the region? It is still too soon to call but…
What about the surprise June Hurricane Alex, the first June storm of the Atlantic in 15 years? Look at how strong the storm was-only 1 millibar higher in pressure than the strongest hurricane on record-Audrey which occurred back in 1957 according to The Weather Channel.
The behemoth, some 700 miles in diameter, dropped by some 15 millibars in pressure in just 8 hours, which is quite impressive and subsequently achieved a Cat 2 rating as it approached the Mexican coastline with winds of 105 mph, reaching the pressure of Hurricane Ike in 2008 according to TWC. What was amazing to me was that the eye seemed to become better defined AFTER it made landfall and took its time before losing it. There seemed to be a lag in the dissipation of the eye, too long.
Hi there! I am Ray Ward. I live in Plano,Texas with my wife of
40 years. I am semiretired and the proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren ranging in age from 10 months to 22 years old.
I have been interested in space and astronomy nearly all of
my life. I have read and studied in these areas for many many years! I really feel that there are answers to all the mysteries that exist.
I noticed that as well. Is there any evidence to indicate that the oil slick itself might give a hurricane (or tropical depression)the time lagging, for it to build even stronger pressure before reaching land? I can’t find much information on the topic. Thanks!
