On The Fringe

Over this last weekend, I was able to tune into Project Camelot’s “Aware & Awake In L.A.” conference. I almost went, I only live about 100 miles away, but I got a stinkin’ cold and stayed home. What a stroke of luck (if I actually believed in luck!)! I was able to watch the conference streamed over the Internet. Well… what can I say? I don’t want to insult anyone… really. But I have to say what I’m thinking. There was one really very high point (Richard Dolan was brilliant!) and the rest of it I saw in the late sixties at a hippie love-in. Here’s why…

If you don’t know by now, my career has been in psychotherapy and sociology. My education was in Social Work and I’ve been a practicing psychotherapist for over twenty years. Now I’m sure my critics think I’m as looney as they come, but it’s not true. My cheese is still on my cracker. It’s come close to sliding off a couple of times, but it’s solidly in place as we speak! I have references I can provide if needed! Anyway, I do think (not believe) UFO’s exist and I do think the evidence shows that aliens/extraterrestrials are visiting the earth and have even abducted people at times. Critics like to take that kind of statement and run with it. So what? I think to ignore the evidence is more nutz than making an open statement.

So on with the story. I’ve, as of lately watched the videos of Stephen Greer and Kerry Cassidy going at it, I watched the conference from L.A. and several other videos on their website. My wife and I saw Greer a couple of years ago. I have to say, I really think that there’s a real problem with mental illness here. Before you shut me off, let me share why I say that. And first of I think that these people are generally good people and that with out exception they are each appear very intelligent.

Some years ago, when working on my education, I was doing an internship at an inpatient mental health hospital for criminals, I met one patient that was really quite interesting. I listened to him for hours. This was in another state, other than California. He would tell me this long detailed story of how his family came to the state decades ago and became prominent in business and the politics of the state. He spoke of corruption and the many life’s of his relatives and their opponents that eventually ruined his family. It was like listening to a James Michener novel being read to you.

Some years later or before, I can’t really remember right now, I met another fellow while working at a social rehab stepdown house. Our patients came from the county hospital and had been there after being put on a 5150, or what’s called an involuntary hold for threatening or trying to hurt themselves or others – as it is called. Really quite sad. Anyway… This fellow swore to me that he was not human, but that he was a robot and full of wires and computer chips.

Of the two folks, it was easy to quickly see that the second fellow was delusional. Not so easy with the first guy. What he said made sense. Sure you could look at the facts and disprove him. But really only if you had some training in psychiatry or if you were a specialized historian.

Here’s my point: These folks that have “beliefs” or even state that they are witnesses, in UFOlogy or in governmental conspiracies, or whatever they believe in, their messages should be taken with a great deal of skepticism. One fellow stated this weekend that Christianity and even Judaism was created only a few centuries ago. This is absolutely absurd and his foundational argument is very flawed. Some are now saying that they have visited Mars and have elaborate stories about the experience. Now I’m not saying DON’T BELIEVE THEM! I’m saying be very careful what you do believe. Stephen Greer states all of these facts about the UFO/Alien question, but then refuses to state his sources. He has many of them! All secret. Does this mean they’re bad people or that everything they say is misguided? Of course not.

“Truth is knowledge of things as they are, as they were, and as they are to come!”

There must be a better way to know the truth. And I don’t think the tenets of science have all the answers. In fact I would say that science has very few answers. Oh they make a good computer, and they even save lives with their medicine, but overall they proceed without morals or ethics and are plagued with greed. Just like politics and government. Really, this is true of just about everything.

So if none of them have the truth, where will we find it? How will we know the truth when we hear it or see it? And really… who are you? And who are these people trying to tell us they know the truth? Trying to tell us that the “Andromedans” have a message for us? Or trying to tell us that we are on the verge of a great change for humanity. That the galactic center will line up with us on 2012 or whatever they say. How do you know what is Truth? Yes I spelled it with a capital “T”. It’s really an important question. Our life’s depend upon the answer to that question.

That’s why, when I have written articles or made certain statements, I say you need to decide for yourselves. I see others are starting to say that now. That’s good. Because the Truth (with a capital “T”) is no where else, but in you.

There are greater things to know. There are greater Truths that are not being taught here. I wonder if that’s their purpose? I wonder if it’s possible to be so misled, and that we could get so lost that we couldn’t find our way back to Truth? How would we know? Which people would we choose to believe? Which stories, which ideas, which aliens? How do we know? Isn’t it the most important thing? To know the Truths? How can we even try to live without the Truth?
